The Giro Scamp II Helmet is one of the best options for very young riders, especially those still on balance bikes. The biggest challenge at this age is getting a helmet that actually fits. The Scamp is one of the smallest high-quality helmets available, and the fit system adjusts easily to keep it secure as kids grow. It’s light and comfortable enough that many kids will keep it on without a fight.
The Scamp II reviewed here is $65. From there, you have a few upgrade paths. The MIPS version adds rotational impact protection for $20 more, bringing it to $85. The Scamp II LED version, which includes a rear light, is also $85. You can also add the Giro Scamp II Vent Light separately for $30 to any version.
