Thermacell EX90 is the mosquito repeller we love when we are staying in one place. It creates a 20-foot protection zone – in extreme cases you can even see the mosquitos flying around right outside the protective area – without spraying anything on your skin, which makes it the best option for backyard hangs, campsites, picnic tables, and parking-lot evenings when the bugs show up before anyone thought to pack spray.

I was skeptical of these at first. Now we keep them anywhere we might want serious mosquito protection: at home, with our camping gear, and even in the truck. The EX90 is rechargeable, runs up to 9 hours, and comes with a 12-hour repellent refill. It is also flameless, scent-free, and weather-resistant. We consider these part of our essential summer gear.

The main limitation is that it works best when people stay inside the zone. It is not the right choice for hikes, trail rides, or moving around.
