  • • Five-foot cord can be cumbersome

There is nothing fancy or especially innovative about the noot products K11 Kids Headphones. That is also their biggest strength. They are inexpensive, reliable and comfortable, with none of the pairing or battery issues that can turn wireless headphones into one more travel-day problem.

The padding on the ear cups and headband makes them comfortable enough for our kids to wear for long stretches. The flexible headband adjusts easily across a wide range of head sizes, so these are not headphones they will immediately outgrow. They also fold into a reasonably compact package, making them easier to wedge into a crowded carry-on bag.

The five-foot braided nylon cord feels more durable than the thin plastic cords found on many inexpensive headphones. More importantly, a wired connection means they are ready whenever you need them. There is no battery to charge, no Bluetooth menu to navigate and no risk of discovering that someone forgot to turn them off after the last trip.

That simplicity comes with a few important limitations. The K11 uses a standard 3.5mm plug, so newer phones and tablets without a headphone jack require a USB-C or Lightning adapter. Check every device before leaving home and keep the adapter attached to the cord.

For some, the lack of a built-in volume limiter will be a non-starter. Parents need to set and monitor the volume on the connected device, particularly with younger children. There is also no microphone, inline remote or volume control. None of that matters if all they're doing is watching a downloaded movie, but families looking for headphones for interactive learning may want a more fully featured pair.

For about $13, these are a good example of inexpensive gear that does its limited job well.
