What We Love

  • High bib cut helps keep snow out after falls
  • Waterproof and windproof
  • Reinforced insteps and seat
  • Adjustable suspenders, waist, and extendable legs help stretch the fit

Worth Knowing

  • Bib pants makes bathroom breaks more complicated
  • Premium product that's more expensive than basic snow pants
  • Still needs basela for very cold ski days

The Helly Hansen Girls’ Jr Stellar Bib Pants are the kind of snow pants I’d choose for kids who spend real time on snow, whether that means ski school, family ski days, or long winter play sessions.

Bib pants do add one obvious complication: bathroom breaks. But I think the trade-off is worth it. The higher back helps keep snow from getting inside the pants after a fall, and falls are part of the deal when skiing with kids. The high front also adds another partial layer of warmth across the torso, which is useful on cold lift rides and windy days.

The Jr Stellar Bibs are built for hard winter use. The 2-layer HELLY TECH Performance construction is waterproof, windproof, and breathable, with fully sealed seams for better weather protection. Reinforced areas at the instep and seat add durability where kids tend to wear gear out first, and the adjustable waist and suspenders make the fit accommodating to mid-season growth spurts.

I also like that these have extendable legs. Kids’ ski gear is expensive, and getting more than one season out of a pair of bibs can make a big difference. Barring a major growth spurt, there is enough adjustment at the hips, shoulder straps, and legs to give parents a real shot at stretching these beyond a single winter.

These are probably more bib than a kid needs for casual backyard snow play only. But for skiing, snowboarding, and active winter days where staying warm and dry matters more than anything else, these are tough and built to handle the abuse of multiple seasons.
