Calling the COZYBONDER an airplane bed oversells it slightly. It is really a soft seat extender that creates a hammock-like space between your child’s seat and the seat in front. Our kids can't stretch out as if they were in a real bed, but plane rides became far more comfortable once we started using these.
A side benefit was immediately apparent on the first flight: fewer things ended up on the floor. The 31-by-18-inch hammock closes the gap in front of the seat, providing a supportive leg rest and catching small items before they disappear. A dedicated side pocket helps keep a bottle within reach, although our kids usually find it more convenient to leave theirs between their legs.
The upper surface is soft velvet, while the waterproof underside helps keep spills off the seat cushion. Grippers along the base prevent it from sliding around on the seat. Adjustable nylon straps let you adapt the fit, with a large buckle securing the front strap around the closed tray table.
Setup is quick, which helps during the mad rush of boarding, and we usually install it while getting everyone settled. Occasionally, a flight attendant asks us to wait until we reach cruising altitude before attaching the footrest portion.
The pad folds into its included drawstring bag and takes up little room in a carry-on. Ours have also survived the washing machine, which is essential for something that spends several hours catching airplane snacks and the occasional accident during a long travel day.
Despite the name, this is not a flat sleeping platform, although it has made it easier for our kids to nap on planes. However, it keeps them comfortable and their belongings mostly contained. That makes the flight easier for everyone, and it has earned a permanent place in our carry-on whenever we travel with the kids.
